In fact, I was laughing at how stupid all of it was, and how people failed to keep their perspective. Now, after searching for a photo to compare against the photo that started the entire ruckus, I'm pretty peeved at the irrationality of the page owner who kicked me out, and the laziness of the person who posted the photo in the first place.</p><p>Several months ago, maybe even a year ago, I joined a page that was all about the It's a Wonderful Life ceramic village that was created by Target. I did it out of curiosity to see what pieces I was missing and what kinds of prices they were fetching. I learned a lot from the group, and I also found out that they got a lot of information from this blog. A lot of members liked to supplement their villages with pieces from a collection called Christmas Valley, which was something I didn't do.</p><p>Recently, one of the members posted a photo that showed a hardware store. She was so excited about this discovery because it was the first time that she had found a photo of a hardware store in what she thought was Bedford Falls. This photo somehow gave her permission to add, and a location to put her ceramic hardware store in her village, and it meant something extra to her because Jimmy Stewart's father owned a hardware store. She was all wound up and wanted to get ahold of an author who had printed a map of Bedford Falls in one of his books and get him to add the hardware store to his map.</p><p><br />Looking at the photo, one could clearly tell it was the same set, but it was decorated for a different film. I voiced that opinion but offered to use my connections to contact the author through a mutual friend. I did so. Within minutes, our mutual friend sent me several screenshots in which the author offered a scathing, vulgar opinion of this woman's evaluation of the photos in question. The photos are included here.</p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv1rgaje8XOd3riYpPJMPwBZqhA-nSjZ1cjwTm4xWFUzYTFG8jhm0pCt5hCRVmsL-CM6-m8ChB_-YSM-43eIMvgY6u41MMN173NIwGXkf2X6lJfcaoaf-pNyyIOn5z7qrqDtxuBYET4RbGgdU9YjI4OD3Q3cPrFY50x_0357pb0p9y4zzjvSqcc4QGZFI/s1627/IMG_9532.JPG" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="The image" border="0" data-original-height="1627" data-original-width="1168" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv1rgaje8XOd3riYpPJMPwBZqhA-nSjZ1cjwTm4xWFUzYTFG8jhm0pCt5hCRVmsL-CM6-m8ChB_-YSM-43eIMvgY6u41MMN173NIwGXkf2X6lJfcaoaf-pNyyIOn5z7qrqDtxuBYET4RbGgdU9YjI4OD3Q3cPrFY50x_0357pb0p9y4zzjvSqcc4QGZFI/w461-h640/IMG_9532.JPG" title="The image" width="461" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The photo in question with arrows pointing to the hardware store.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p></p><p>I asked if the author knew what movie the photos were from, waited for another answer, and returned to the Facebook group with the verdict. I couldn't print what the author actually said, so I simply said that he was adamant that the set was the same, but it was a different film, and that I was waiting to find out which one.</p><p>Over the course of several days, a couple of people asked multiple times if I had heard back, and I kept telling them no. Finally, after not getting an answer, I gave them several bullet-point reasons why the photo didn't match the Wonderful Life set:</p><p>1) Dirt roads in the photo, but not in IAWL<br />2) The bakery building is clearly the same, but the bakery sign is missing<br />3) The open lot just to the left of the bakery has a fence in front of it in the photo but doesn't in IAWL.<br />4) There was also a discrepancy in maps from the author and another map that is posted on the group's Facebook page, but I don't remember the details at this moment for the purpose of this blog.</p><p>So it is my evaluation is that there was not a hardware store in Bedford Falls. I wasn't rude about it. I simply posted things I noticed in the photo that pointed to facts. I heard nothing more for about a week. Then I was at my son's high school marching band showcase and something appeared on the page from the page owner that said something about being kind to others and respecting others' opinions and no need to argue. Then I got a private message from her that said someone was offended that I had the nerve to post my bullet-point comment and state that the hardware store wasn't in the movie. She proceeded to put me on a 28-day reprimand, in which I couldn't comment on the page.</p><p>Of course, I responded, reminded her that there were people hounding me, wanting to know what the author had to say, and I sent her screenshots of what the author actually did say, pointing out that I could have just published that and it could have been a lot worse. I wasn't rude or condescending in my posted comments. I simply pointed out inconsistencies between the photos and the film and told her in a private message that if her feelings were that fragile she could just ban me from the page. So she did.</p><p>I wasn't upset about it. Not until this morning when I went searching for a photo to compare the Bedford Falls street scene to the photo in question to point out the differences. I did a Google image search for "It's a wonderful life bakery scene" and came across this page. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedford_Falls_%28It%27s_a_Wonderful_Life%29">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedford_Falls_%28It%27s_a_Wonderful_Life%29</a> And on that page was this photo: </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4G7t0hO-NHofkBrdZttMSr_HecEJeYanNJvAsQbL9BGf9UJQaPMlhl37lYm2pv6rOdbTLFHWQI_nw32t9R-hfd3lFUdZ7utYuOqdkfvB23pL4lpfmH2G9DlzDSlCDelUyQD1vLdICv5NSxWVKQn8doj6WH3K1Zrx93amso3wUXHnbVWwdcO_KzNO-bhM/s1218/Screenshot%202023-10-13%20at%208.38.12%20AM.png" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="Wikipedia photo" border="0" data-original-height="1218" data-original-width="596" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4G7t0hO-NHofkBrdZttMSr_HecEJeYanNJvAsQbL9BGf9UJQaPMlhl37lYm2pv6rOdbTLFHWQI_nw32t9R-hfd3lFUdZ7utYuOqdkfvB23pL4lpfmH2G9DlzDSlCDelUyQD1vLdICv5NSxWVKQn8doj6WH3K1Zrx93amso3wUXHnbVWwdcO_KzNO-bhM/w314-h640/Screenshot%202023-10-13%20at%208.38.12%20AM.png" title="Wikipedia photo" width="314" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Wikipedia photo</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div>Notice what that says beneath the photos? "Shots used in the film Cimarron (1931)." Had the original poster of the original photos taken her time, she would have known that it was not a shot from IAWL. She found a couple of photos and ignored the fact that hundreds of films had been shot on the same set. And the owner of the page allowed feelings to get in the way of facts.<br /><p>The fact is that there was no hardware store in It's a Wonderful Life, just as there was no record store. And yet, I bought the record store because it was part of the Target village, despite the fact that it looked so ridiculous and out of place for the time period of the film.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz1a7mcAmchEjlGsPNxn6lffZCSvsR7wWSceNr83Guw3xwCePcy2bF-ow_TgRzh8mOhJWsR8vOWC9vMAnCHSnG1V_gVYMtlj-5QRtuPOM1n3jjnKNlIWHdAXJYsym7RI3pD25xjlhu6n51sC3sO-o-8wyQ5F-3_NcfzjcRipL7bsH_8YcVVplNXq93At0/s400/Record%20Shop.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="300" data-original-width="400" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz1a7mcAmchEjlGsPNxn6lffZCSvsR7wWSceNr83Guw3xwCePcy2bF-ow_TgRzh8mOhJWsR8vOWC9vMAnCHSnG1V_gVYMtlj-5QRtuPOM1n3jjnKNlIWHdAXJYsym7RI3pD25xjlhu6n51sC3sO-o-8wyQ5F-3_NcfzjcRipL7bsH_8YcVVplNXq93At0/w400-h300/Record%20Shop.jpeg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Target Record Shop</td></tr></tbody></table><br /></div><div>At the end of the day, I have discovered 3 takeaways from this experience:</div><div><br /></div><div>1) Spend your money the way you want. If you want to add a hardware store to your ceramic village because Jimmy Stewart's dad owned one, knock yourself out. If you want to add something from A Christmas Story or a building from A Nightmare Before Christmas, then DO IT. But if you want to stay true to the film, there wasn't a hardware store in the film, and you should technically only use one pose of each character instead of having George and Mary throwing rocks at the Granville house while at the same time posing with the family and driving in the car and gathered around the Christmas tree. Bottom line: It's YOUR money. Do what makes you happy.</div><div><br /></div><div>2) If you don't want to hear the answer, then don't ask the question. I have been a serious researcher about It's a Wonderful Life since the mid-1990s. I wrote an unpublished book. I have studied and compared all of Stewart and Capra's movies that are still available. I have watched It's a Wonderful Life about 900 times (no lie) in black and white and in color, comparing scenes, looking at scenes in close-ups, and studying character motivation and theme. Until I learned about the author in question, I had been working on making my own map. I know this film inside and out. I was a member of the It's a Wonderful Life WebRing in the early days of the Internet. I started studying this film when Jimmy Stewart was still alive. If I don't know the answer to a question I know people who do. Facts are different than opinions. Opinions are great, but when photos are involved, it is not a matter of opinion, as we have seen here. The author in question has been studying and assembling the map of Bedford Falls for more than 20 years. One random person on a ceramic fandom collector page finding two photos from an archive I can almost guarantee the author has seen is not an argument that a building existed in a film, no matter how much you wish it to be true. Trust the years of research. I gave a factual answer to the question that was asked of me and I got banned because someone didn't like the answer. That is insane.</div><div><br /></div><div>3) Don't forget to maintain perspective. My goal when I started was to learn. Now my goal is to teach others and maintain the legacy of It's a Wonderful Life, its actors, and all of those involved in its making. I do that by sharing facts and dispelling myths (Bonus: Bert and Ernie on Sesame Street were NOT named after characters in this film). A ceramic village is just decoration. It has its own value, but it's individual to each household. There is no reason to get upset about a piece of painted ceramic.</div><div><br /></div><div>Keep it real, folks.</div>It Happened One Christmas Revisitedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04499775401535491182noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-427765010022002435.post-31612464766032845052021-06-17T18:18:00.000-04:002021-06-17T18:18:44.958-04:00It's a Wonderful Tattoo<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3nRqlYNEGo0/YMvHr_RcVuI/AAAAAAAAPYE/Ge9cyWFRCooF1MzwpzTO3B6U0_vM7CvMACLcBGAsYHQ/s344/66905_10151358060018789_697641644_n.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="344" data-original-width="344" height="200" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3nRqlYNEGo0/YMvHr_RcVuI/AAAAAAAAPYE/Ge9cyWFRCooF1MzwpzTO3B6U0_vM7CvMACLcBGAsYHQ/w200-h200/66905_10151358060018789_697641644_n.jpeg" width="200" /></a></div><br />For Christmas, my wife, Jenn, told me I could get another tattoo, my second. I have wanted another one for years. My first one was a "reset button," designed to look the the "fire" button on the old Atari 2600 joysticks. I got that one in 2003 or 2004 after my divorce to remind me that I am in charge of my life and my future, not my practice wife/mother of my first child.<p></p><p></p><div>I have wanted a second tattoo for years, and have kicked around the idea of a Wonderful Life-themed tattoo for a while. I thought about the drawing of George lassoing the moon, but among other reasons, I decided not to do that, because that seemed to be the go-to design. I wanted something unique. And I wanted to incorporate my children in some way. So I went back to the drawing board. </div><div><br /></div><div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pOi7d3Yt_ds/YMvH746NoNI/AAAAAAAAPYM/eFtfNqWO58EYvejraaOmcNBqz2j1Ff6UgCLcBGAsYHQ/s500/Book.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="412" data-original-width="500" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pOi7d3Yt_ds/YMvH746NoNI/AAAAAAAAPYM/eFtfNqWO58EYvejraaOmcNBqz2j1Ff6UgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/Book.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The book where I found my inspiration</td></tr></tbody></table><br />And THEN I looked through the book <u>It's a Wonderful Life: The Illustrated Holiday Classic</u> by Paul Ruditis and illustrated by Sarah Conradsen, which I received as a Christmas gift from my parents. In it, I found two gorgeous illustrations of George Bailey praying on the bridge. I started playing with those ideas .... not suicide, but of praying and my children, and how would I incorporate them. And then I thought of the role bells play in the film.</div><div><br /></div><div>I also wanted to incorporate my wife in the design, but I didn't want to include her name, because tattooing your wife's name on your body guarantees a divorce. That's just bad juju. Not gonna' do it. Some people suggested using her initials and putting "XXX Bridgeworks" (where XXX are her initials) on the bridge as a way to include her. But then I realized her birth flower was holly. So that was easy.</div><div><br /></div><div>But since I wear glasses and George Bailey doesn't, I had my tattoo artist bury the face in his hands instead of showing the face. That way, it is unclear if it is me or George Bailey praying. I also added a square and compasses lapel pin to represent my involvement in the Masonic fraternity.</div><div><br /></div><div>So, you can look at this tattoo as simply a scene from the film inspired by a book made for children, or you can look at it as symbolic of me, praying over my children, represented by the bells, bridging my past to their future.</div><div><br /></div><div>Below is the process of the tattoo. It was completed in two sessions. Session 1 was Feb. 5, 2021, which was the anniversary of my parents' wedding, and my grandfather's death (neither of which happened this year). Session 2 happened June 1. I might need to get the white touched up at some point, but that will be after swim season is over.</div><div><br /></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-feFl-GiNP9Q/YMvI2OqCKqI/AAAAAAAAPYY/18iAUT2dIhwv_JYNbzWzMr32RovFMZjYgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/IMG_4544%2Bcopy.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-feFl-GiNP9Q/YMvI2OqCKqI/AAAAAAAAPYY/18iAUT2dIhwv_JYNbzWzMr32RovFMZjYgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/IMG_4544%2Bcopy.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Last moment for bare arm<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-my9UNpIg62g/YMvI4HqocEI/AAAAAAAAPYg/zVS3OL2PpxkOoifXKELQxK872M9Qag8xACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/IMG_4551%2Bcopy.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2046" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-my9UNpIg62g/YMvI4HqocEI/AAAAAAAAPYg/zVS3OL2PpxkOoifXKELQxK872M9Qag8xACLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h400/IMG_4551%2Bcopy.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">End of Day 1 progress Feb 5, 2021</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mybLwlaXHuE/YMvI4joswZI/AAAAAAAAPYk/7SHwvYmTtHIfICTCdIipWHZRzT3fRFNNwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/IMG_5039.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1380" data-original-width="2048" height="270" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mybLwlaXHuE/YMvI4joswZI/AAAAAAAAPYk/7SHwvYmTtHIfICTCdIipWHZRzT3fRFNNwCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h270/IMG_5039.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Final tattoo, completed June 1, 2021</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div><br /></div>It Happened One Christmas Revisitedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04499775401535491182noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-427765010022002435.post-86204827415181325732020-11-09T12:57:00.001-05:002020-11-09T12:58:47.714-05:00It Happened One Christmas Revisited<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PxzRIETcUqE/X6mCgA0GT1I/AAAAAAAAPFg/kRqEzkp52AoHcdfogFZ_MQaGNdB8F2A1ACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IHOC.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="It Happened One Christmas" border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PxzRIETcUqE/X6mCgA0GT1I/AAAAAAAAPFg/kRqEzkp52AoHcdfogFZ_MQaGNdB8F2A1ACLcBGAsYHQ/w240-h320/IHOC.jpg" title="It Happened One Christmas" width="240" /></a></div><br />For years I have bashed the film <i>It Happened One Christmas</i>. And by bashed, I mean BASHED. And for the most part, I stand by my position.<br />
<br />
*<i> It's a Wonderful Life</i> should never be remade. Ever.<br />
<br />
* If a director or a writer wants to make a film and make the female the hero of the film, I'm absolutely fine with that. <i>Captain Marve</i>l, <i>Wonder Woman</i>, and <i>Hidden Figures</i> are just three examples of films that focus on the female hero. Why remake an old film when you can create a whole new story in which the female is the hero? It's ridiculous to recast something old to make something new.<br />
<br />
THAT BEING SAID......<br />
<br />
I have bashed this movie in the past after only one viewing (<a href="https://risefallriseagain.blogspot.com/search?q=It+Happened+One+Christmas">https://risefallriseagain.blogspot.com/search?q=It+Happened+One+Christmas</a>). After a second and third viewing, I have to admit I don't hate it as much as I have in the past.<br />
<br />
I watched it again in January, 2020, and I have to admit that I find *some* value in it. While it replicates the dialogue of the original film, and simply tries to make women equal to men through role reversal, I still find some value.<br />
<br />
Let me clarify right here and now that my issue is not gender equality. My wife is a badass. I'm 46. My wife is 43. We had a baby a week before Christmas. My wife and my daughter can do whatever they want. We just elected our first female woman of color as Vice President. I learned a long time ago to trust a mother's instinct and not question it, which was why we were in the hospital on New Year's Day 2020 through Jan 3, 2020 for the baby, even though I thought the doctor would just tell us that it was a virus and needed to work itself out. It wasn't. The wife was right.<br />
<br />
The town of Seneca Falls, NY is the inspiration for Bedford Falls. It is also home to the National Women's Hall of Fame. I have visited this town, and I must say that for me it is inspirational on several fronts. I'm a very liberal Democrat. I don't hide it. I'm proud of it. Empowered women make me happy. That's why I married one....a very vocal one.<br />
<br />
<i>It Happened One Christmas</i> is a decent remake. It isn't great, but it isn't as crappy as the movie <i>Clarence</i> (1990) <a href="https://risefallriseagain.blogspot.com/2015/09/movie-review-clarence.html">https://risefallriseagain.blogspot.com/2015/09/movie-review-clarence.html</a><br />
<br />
Here are my issues with IHOC:<br />
<ul>
<li>Remakes suck. Period. If you want to make a film about a female hero, WRITE ONE. That is perfectly legitimate and adds to the creativity of film.</li>
<li>Mary Bailey WAS the hero of <i>It's a Wonderful Life</i>. Why are we making her the victim in the remake?? Mary Bailey was a strong Psalms 31 wife who kept the family together in its toughest moments. Why are we changing this narrative and taking the power away from her???</li>
</ul>
<div>
Mary Bailey is an amazing, powerful woman as portrayed by Donna Reed. Why are we challenging this? From one perspective, I can understand it: Seneca Falls is the site of the first women's rights convention and the birthplace of the women's suffrage movement. So from that point of view, I give <i>It Happened One Christmas </i>credit. It has the balls to stand up where other movies don't dare to speak their names. And for that, I give it HUGE kudos for making Mary Baily the focus of the film instead of a secondary character.</div><div><br /></div><div>It Happened One Christmas is available for streaming on Amazon Prime.</div>

Here is the graphic and somewhat crass newspaper story of her death. I don't know what paper it appeared in, but this is how it was done back then. This account was discovered after the death of my grandmother in 2019:</div>

<span style="font-size: 24pt;">TERRIBLE ACCIDENT FRIDAY AFTERNOON<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 16pt;">In Which Little Clara Baumberger Loses Her Life by Fire.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-size: 10pt;">Last Friday between 3 and 4 o’clock p.m., the citizens of this place were shocked by the report that, Clara, Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Baumberger, had met with a terrible accident resulting from her clothing taking fire and later on her life.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-size: 10pt;">The child had been writing a letter to her grandmother and had made a mistake in her letter and went to the stove and attempted to burn it up. The next moment the child’s mother was startled by a cry from one of her other children of, “Mamma, mama, Clara is on fire!” and turned from her work to see her daughter enveloped in a mass of flames.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-size: 10pt;">The burning child started to run into another room and the mother after her, who seized a rug and threw it around the child in an endeavor to outen the flames, but the little one broke away from her mother and ran thru the house out the kitchen door, screaming. Her cries were heard by the men at work in Robinson’s blacksmith shop who immediately ran up the back stairs and found the child on the floor, her body one mass of flames. Mr. Gribbens, first on the scene, threw water on the child to deaden the fire and then with hast, stripped what remained of the burning clothes from the poor burned body and hastened for medical aid.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-size: 10pt;">The child, upon examination, was found to be in a terrible condition. Her entire body was almost burned to a crisp, with the exception of a small portion of her lower limbs from her knees down, and her face. Some idea may be gained of the extent of the injuries from the fact that her fingernails dropped off and her body had to be bound so that the burned flesh would not drop off.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-size: 10pt;">The little sufferer lingered until about 1:30 Saturday morning when she passed peacefully away. Mrs. Baumbeger, the mother, was severly (sic) burned about the hands and arms in trying to save her little one from the terrible fate which she foresaw was in store for her.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-size: 10pt;">Clara was the youngest of the children and was born Sept. 9, 1899. She was aged 9 years, 7 months and 23 days. She leaves to mourn her loss four sisters, three brothers, father and mother.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<br />
I make beer. I've made several batches so far. I give each one its own unique name. So far, I have bottled:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Swamp Juice</li>
<li>Wobble Water</li>
<li>Corduroy Road</li>
<li>Howling Fantods</li>
</ul>
<div>
For those who don't know, I live in what used to be the Great Black Swamp, and I was heavily into David Foster Wallace (Yes, I have read <i>Infinite Jest</i>, but it's not my favorite. That award goes to <i>The Broom of the System</i>). </div>
<br />
<br />
The most recent batch, five gallons, which I bottled on April 1, 2017, is a honey ale. I called it Drunkle Billy. I know.....offensive, right? Oh well. I thought it was funny. If it makes you feel any better, I screwed up the label. At the bottom, I wrote the tag line: "Sweet, but a little...." I should have finished the sentence so it read "Sweet, but a little alcoholic." But I refuse to peel, redesign, and and re-label all of the bottles.<br />
<br />
Before you ask, no, I don't sell it. I do this for fun!<br />
<br />
So here it is: Drunkle Billy. Ta-Da!!<br />
<br />

Adler, Inc., is called "It's a Wonderful Life," stock number AP 910. It is a beautiful hand-blown, hand-painted piece featuring Mary, George, and Zuzu Bailey. I bought one roll of the red and two rolls of the green, and kept one of each. I bought these, in all places, at Community Markets in Bluffton, Ohio, when I was in college.<br />

However, without licensing, they had to change the name of the town to Northport, and the welcome home sign says "Welcome Home Jackson Moore" instead of "Welcome Home Harry Bailey". The box features the Granville House, the chapel set, Anderson's Store, City Hall, the Bijou Theatre, the train station, and the welcome sign. The buildings on this box were clearly drawn to look like the ceramic pieces that Target sold.<br />

I had several pieces, but since they were so large (about 150 percent larger than the Target village), I sold them. I kept this bandstand piece, though, which is very cool.<br />
<br />
You can see the bandstand in the film when Uncle Billy walks through town on his way to the bank.<br />

At the end of the film, the residents redeemed themselves by creating another kind of mob that gives back to the family that has helped them thrive in Bedford Falls. This is that scene. I am not sure who these characters are.<br />
<br />
This is the last piece in my collection. I know I am missing several characters, scenes and cars (a total of 14 pieces, I believe). If you have any you want to sell, please message me!!<br />
<br />
Stay tuned, because tomorrow, I will continue posting other collection pieces I have.<br />

Once you buy your tree from the Christmas Tree Lot, you must take it home and decorate it, of course! Here is the Bailey family trimming the tree. It is missing one child, which I assume is Zuzu. It would be rational that she was sick in bed while the rest of the family was decorating the tree. That means the characters are, left to right, Janie, Petie, Mary, George and Tommy.</div>

In the years of small-town America, you didn't just pop in at your local big-box store. Instead, you stopped at the locally-owned business, such as this tree stand. I still remember when tree stands like this existed in the town where I lived as a kid. It even had one of those wooden shelters for the employees.<br />
<br />
My tree lot needs repaired. The garland/light/bell piece has disconnected from the main piece (hot glue), and I think there is a plastic jewel missing from the star at the top of the shelter.<br />

I believe the tree was the last one I received, following the 1996 holiday. This was made of ceramic and is numbered 3801 out of 6200.<br />

<br />
This opulent vehicle reminds George of the dreams he gave up, and of the money he isn't making.<br />
